The Bennett Park Montessori community is currently celebrating it's 30th year! As part of our celebration, we're reaching out to the thousands of people whose lives have been influenced by the teachings of Dr. Maria Montessori through our Bennett Park Community. If you are an alumni or former staff member of Bennett Park Montessori and would like to share memories of your years at Bennett Park, we'd love to hear from you.

Thirty years ago a new program began in Buffalo. It was the only public Montessori school in the Buffalo Public Schools and the first in Western New York. That means that some of you out there could be over forty years old!
We are trying to contact students, teachers and parents who have been associated with the school over the years. Right now, Bennett Park is under construction and the school has been temporarily displaced. The plans are to be returning in '09 on Clinton Street with double the number of students.
We are setting up this blog to see how many of you we can find. Please send this on to any one that you know of who had something to do with BPMC. Jan

I would like to write a thought of respect for Dr. Rae Rosen, the first principal of Bennett Park Montessori Center. Rae is recently deceased but her work and memory will live on. Rae dedicated herself to building a Montessori School where children, their families, teachers and teacher assistants thrive. I was among the first group of teachers that started the school. Rae Rosen had an impact on my career. She opened up my heart and mind, as well as my professional colleagues, to see and direct learning following the child and the child's needs. Rae became a believer in the Montessori philosophy and the school environment that she fought for. She was our leader that walked the talk. May her soul rest in peace. Stephanie Gregorie

I am pleased to have found this blog! I'm often reminded of the wonderful teachers and students from Bennett Park. Thiry years doesn't seem so long ago -- especially this weekend with the very sad and really shocking news of the passing of Alison Des Forges. Of all the tributes to her remarkably achievements, I would add "teacher." It's simply hard for me to believe that I was the beneficiary of the talents of such a committed and qualified educator. I hope that there's a fitting way for the Bennett Park community to remember her.

This is Nicole I have to say Montessori is the best school. I attended from pre K to 8th grade. I truly wish they would have had a high school and college here as in other states. I agree with Stephanie, Rae Rosen was a wonderful person who stuck with Maria Montessoris method. I am now 24 and have to say a remember Montessori with manyfond memories.:)
